About Alternative Health Supplements

August 30, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

These days, there are plenty of pills out there offered by your local pharmacy to cure what ails you. But you can never be too sure that the products pushed on us by the food and drug administration are the best thing for you. A lot of these pills have side effects, and some of them are not tolerated well by certain people.

To that end, there are numerous alternative health supplements offered that can help your body get into the best shape it’s ever been. Here are the facts on some of them:

Coral calcium- This supplement is great to help your body. You probably know that your body needs calcium to maintain its bones and teeth, but most people don’t realize that you need a certain level of calcium in your bloodstream as well.

If you don’t keep replenishing this calcium, your body will begin to sap the calcium from your bones and teeth to maintain the level in your blood. This can result in bone and teeth shrinkage, and can make them brittle and cause movements to be painful. Coral calcium is a source of calcium that surpasses most of the others. Available in supplement form, coral calcium can be a great buy.

Another one of the alternative health supplements offered is fish oil. Harvested from fatty fish, this oil contains substances known as omega-3 essential fatty acids. Containing the fatty acids DHA and EPA, fish oil has been linked to memory improvement and general brain health, considering DHA is a substance that needs to maintain its presence in the brain. Also, the American Heart Association recommends that you take fish oils to help maintain heart health. It can help to decrease your risks of heart disease or cardiac arrest!

These are two of the alternative health supplements offered these days that can help lead your body to great health. Hopefully they can help you!

Natural Health Supplements

August 29, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

These days, you can’t be too concerned about your health. With possible toxins and lower nutritional values found in the foods we eat and the things we drink, many people have taken to buying supplements to help aid their health. Here’s a list of natural health supplements that can lead you to a more sound and healthy way of life:

Saint John’s Wort: Used for over 2,000 years, this supplement is a simple plant that can greatly aid depression. One of the most widely used natural health supplements, in a double-blind clinical study, Saint John’s Wort was proven to be equally as effective as pharmaceutical antidepressants, while giving less side-effects then their drug company counterpart.

Bee pollen: People take bee pollen in supplement form to help increase energy and vitality. In addition to offering several required vitamins and minerals, bee pollen acts as an enhancer to the immune system, as well as being a useful tool in cleansing the body of harmful toxins.

Athletes have been known to take bee pollen regularly to help enhance their endurance, stamina, recovery time from exercise, and more. It may also prove to be helpful in alleviating the pesky symptoms of hay fever. With all these possible uses of bee pollen, it’s amazing to find out that it can also be used to aid in weight loss. A substance in the pollen known as lecithin helps to stimulate your metabolism and flush fat from your system. This is another one of the most widely used natural health supplements.

Fish Oil:
Harvested from the bodies of fish, fish oil is purified through a scientific process and turned into supplement form. Containing Omega-3 fatty acids, these natural health supplements can have numerous effects on your body for the better. For one, fish oil can aid in preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. It has also been associated with better memory, clearer thinking, and health of the heart.

One of the best nutrients for brain health, this supplement’s effect on your body can be vast. Be sure to only purchase pharmaceutical grade fish oil, however, since this is the process which removes the heavy metals found in fish due to pollutants. If your fish oil is not pharmaceutical grade, you run the risk of consuming such dangerous materials as mercury.

Online Health Supplements

August 7, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

The internet, a relatively new invention, presents us with new ways to make the purchases of items we need. Another relatively new craze would have to be the world’s obsession with health supplements. In an increasingly health-aware society, there are many easy options out there to help keep your health robust. Many of them are offered online, and here is a quick primer on some of the online health supplements offered:

Coral calcium: This supplement is a great choice to help your body develop properly.

Coral calcium is a source of calcium that surpasses most of the others in terms of absorption and lack of side-effects. Available in online health supplements, coral calcium can be a great buy.

DMAE: A substance that can be found in high concentrations in anchovies and sardines. In addition, the human brain also produces a trace amount of DMAE. Throughout the years, it has been widely acclaimed that this wonderful nutrient can be of help to those with hyperactivity or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Also, it has been conjectured that DMAE helps to treat memory lapses and Alzheimer’s disease. When this substance is harvested from the bodies of fish, it is purified and concentrated and offered in online health supplements.

Also, it can be very important to get all the vitamins your body needs. On a daily basis, it is important for our body to receive proper levels of Vitamin A, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K. These can often be found together in a simple pill form, and there are plenty of online health supplements that offer all of these vitamins and more in a simple format.

Nutritional Benefits of Whey Protein

March 26, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

Adequate nutrition for your body before and after strenuous
work-outs is important in order for you to reap the maximum
benefits from your efforts. An increasingly popular way of
achieving this is through the use of natural Whey Protein
supplements.

Nowadays many athletes, especially Body Builders, are
utilizing natural Whey Protein supplements to replenish
protein levels that are burned off through hard-core
exercise routines. Amino Acids prevent deterioration in
muscle tissue as well as provide endurance and assist in
building mass. Proteins help supply these amino acids.

- So what exactly is Whey Protein?

Whey Protein is derived from cow’s milk and is also a
by-product of making cheese, which in the past was
typically thrown out as a waste product. We now know that
Whey Protein is rich in amino acids essential for building
muscle and overall good health.

Whey Protein is also naturally found in breast milk as well
as some types of baby formula. Although protein is also
found in other foods such as meats and vegetables, Whey
Protein is known to have the highest digestible levels of
protein that the body can use.

Whey Protein offers several other health benefits like a
healthier immune system, stronger bones, weight loss, and
just plain overall better well being. Whey Protein is also
sometimes used to help speed the healing of wounds or
burns.

- Are there risks or side affects?

Since Whey Protein is derived from food it doesn’t have
any of the risks associated with man-made supplements.
However, you can even have too much of a good thing if
you’re not careful. Extreme high use can be more than your
liver can handle. Moderation is always best.

For those who are lactose intolerant, there is Whey
Protein Isolate which has less than 1% lactose.

Are the Health Supplements Safe

March 19, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

Health supplements are now a common addition to our diet and in many situations they are the only solution to our health problems. However the Internet is simply flooded by SPAM and pop-up advertisements promising a quick relief from various illnesses if only we take (put a name here) health diet supplement and they are treated more and more like some kind of wonder pills. On the other hand, the benefits and dangers of using them are more and more discussed among physicians. The use of various supplements in bodybuilding process and the dangers of abusing them do not help.

The point is that health supplement really do work, but not for everybody and certainly they’re not for every occasion.

Nutritional deficiencies

Basically dietary health supplements were originally developed to help people overcome their nutritional deficiencies. If, for any reason, an individual is unable to follow a balanced diet, health supplements help them to keep your organism intact. However in most cases when an individual eats healthy food (a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. For example), health supplements are no longer needed and taking them will have only little effect (and not always a positive one).

Bodybuilding/fitness

Another common reason of taking health supplements is bodybuilding. When we want more than to be fit, the normal diet is not enough and we need to take something more serious if we hope to keep up the unhealthily quick pace of the muscles grow. That’s where the health supplements come. However as they are often taken without any medical knowledge (and they need to be taken in large quantities if they are to have a visible effect), their final effects may no longer be positive.

Conclusion

In short, health supplements are OK, but only as long as people use them for the reasons they were made for - to fight nutritional deficiencies. Bodybuilding or the general need of feeling healthy are not good reasons for taking those pills (even herbal ones). Our body is a delicate mechanism and we shouldn’t tinker in it too much without a serious reason.

Help Prevent Premature Aging With Nutrition-Science

February 10, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

Aging occurs when the body’s cells die at faster rates than new cells are generated. People age prematurely because inadequate nutrition resulting from poor diet stimulates cellular destruction and increases the potential for obesity, diabetes, cancer and other chronic diseases.

With improper diet, the body produces vast quantities of highly reactive oxygen molecules, known as free radicals. Free radicals attack healthy cells and accelerate the aging process. This occurs especially when we eat high-fat foods, but also occurs when we are exposed to environmental pollutants, such as pesticides and ultraviolet radiation…or consume too many calories in the diet.

Simple Steps to Help Prevent Premature Aging:

1. Take a high-potency MULTIVITAMIN/MINERAL SUPPLEMENT DAILY… to provide valuable nutritional protection against free radicals and help eliminate toxins.

2. Eat Plenty of BERRIES . . . Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.as well as grapes and cherries all contain valuable phytonutrients called flavonoids, which have potent antioxidant activity that can fight heart disease. The naturally occurring Ellagic Acid from these berries, also promote excretion of carcinogenic chemicals.

3. Drink GREEN TEA . . . Green tea comes from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, the same plant used to make black tea….but it has more of the potent antioxidants called polyphenols than black tea.

Green Tea helps protect the liver and fight cancer. One recent study examined Japanese women with breast cancer. Increased green tea consumption was associated with a decreased risk of lymph node metastasis. Researches also found that when women with breast cancer drank five cups of green tea a day, they were more likely to be in remission six months later.

Green tea also has been shown to reduce cholesterol levels, fight tooth decay and aid in weight loss.

Drink two or more cups of green tea daily or take at least 1,500 mg daily of Green tea extract in capsule or tablet form.

4. Reduce Dairy Food Intake…No more than 3 - 4 servings of dairy per week.

Milk, cheese and other dairy foods contain Casein, one of the most common food allergens. It can deplete immune cells. Milk also contains xanthine oxidase, an enzyme that may increase plague buildup in the arteries.

Adults don’t need dairy to get adequate Calcium. Increase daily intake of Calcium-enriched foods, such as juice and soy, rice and almond milk. Broccoli, collard greens, sardines and canned salmon also are rich in Calcium.

5. Supplement with FISH OIL, PRIMROSE OIL AND FLAXSEED OIL . . . These oils contain essential fatty acids…fish oil is a source of eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) and docosahexanoic acid (DHA)…evening primrose oil is a source of GLA. These beneficial fatty acids are involved in proper functioning of the brain and immune system. They also reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer…and help relieve pain and inflammation.

Take 3,000 mg to 5,000 mg of fish oil and 1,000 mg of evening primrose oil daily. If you are on blood-thinning medications such as warfarin (Coumadin), check with your doctor first. Vegetarians can substitute Flaxseed oil for fish oil, if so desired.

6. Increase GARLIC Intake . . . Garlic contains allicin, a sulfur compound that builds immunity and prevents infections. It reduces risk of colon, esophageal and stomach cancers. One study of 41,000 American women found that one or more servings of garlic a week decreased colon cancer risk by 35%. It also lowers cholesterol and has valuable blood pressure-lowering effects.

One-half to one whole raw clove daily (cooking reduces its benefits), or an odor-free Garlic supplement with 4,000 micrograms (mcg) to 5,000 mcg of allicin.

7. Supplement with SPIRULINA 2,000 mg to 3,000 mg per day . . . Spirulina is a nutritive blue-green algae that grows in warm waters around the world including Africa, Central America and Hawaii. It has become a staple for knowledgeable health practitioners because it contains all the essential amino acids in a highly absorbable form and is a rich source of protein. It also contains carotenoids, fat-soluble pigments that act as antioxidants . . . gamma-linoleic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid . . . chlorophyll, a pigment that has potent antioxidant and anti-cancer properties…and phytocyanins, which stimulate red blood cell production. Several studies have shown that spirulina improves immune system activity. Spirulina also has been shown to have antiviral effects and a mild cholesterol-reducing benefit.

(Fitness) Health Thoughts, Living on the Health Minimum Wage

February 2, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

Random thoughts taken from valuable sources, what many nutrition experts consider to be the most important nutrients and health habits a person should have to help them stay healthy long term. We would categorize them into the following areas.

Dietary Fiber - Fiber is extremely important to your health in a number of different ways.

According to the National Institutes of Health one of the common causes of constipation is not enough fiber in the diet.

Fiber promotes cardiovascular health plus in studies has been indicated to help lower harmful cholesterol levels when combined with a healthy diet. But what most people don’t know about fiber is all the various varieties there are of dietary fiber.

The point is with all the healthy benefits of dietary fiber most people don’t get enough everyday - it is recommend that people get 25-30 grams of fiber per day. So if they’re not getting it through their diet it pays to take a supplement. No wonder so many people are constipated.

Let’s talk next about enzymes - did you know that enzymes control virtually all the chemical processes and reactions in your body - everything from digestion to breaking down old cells to generating new cells.

There is no doubt that enzymes are probably the most under-rated nutritional substance. Essentially because nobody talks about them. Most manufactures are not putting them in their foods or supplements. Most manufactures proudly state that their cereal is Vitamin Enriched. However, when was the last time you read a label that said our product is Enzyme Enriched!

However, with the importance of enzymes the question begs to be asked, Where do I get adequate enzymes from? It certainly isn’t from our foods. Processed and cooked foods destroy all enzymes. Sure our body has the ability to manufacture certain enzymes, but just like anything else it could sure use a supplement boost. The best foods for getting enzymes are fresh raw fruits and vegetables, but the problem is less than 20 percent of all people eat even the minimum recommended amount.

Perhaps an enzyme supplement would be advisable.

And why would someone only want the minimum amount of health? That is like living off the minimum wage - not a pleasant thought.

Antioxidants - Gee, how important are antioxidants. With all the environmental pollutants, smoke, chemicals etc that our bodies are exposed to on a daily basis we just can’t underestimate the importance of antioxidants. Antioxidants as you know deactivate dangerous free radicals. Free radicals are essentially what causes iron to rust and an apple to turn brown after cut. The next time you cut an apple in two put lemon juice on half the apple and none on the other half - notice how the one half without the lemon turns brown much faster. This is because the lemon juice is an antioxidant protecting the apple half.

Now think about what oxygen free radicals are doing to your body without an adequate supply of antioxidants.

So antioxidants are extremely important, however, what you may not know is that a variety (or network) of antioxidants almost always is more effective than just the same amount of individual antioxidants. So a variety of 15 different antioxidants would typically work better than the same amount of one single antioxidant.

Micronutrients or plant nutrients - these are present in virtually all plants here are some examples:

Cauliflower contains the micro- photonutrient sulforaphane. In research done at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, sulforaphane lowered the occurrence of breast tumors in lab animals by almost 40%.

In peppers you have micro- photonutrient capsaicin-it has been found to work as an anticoagulant, thus possibly helping prevent heart attacks or strokes caused by blood clot.

Lemons contain limonene, a compound shown to have anticancer properties in laboratory animals. Limonene also appears to raise the levels of beneficial enzymes in the liver.

And of course this is the tip of the iceberg as micro-phytonutrients are present in most plants, researchers are still uncovering all their many health benefits.

A couple more good health tips.

Clean Water - One of the most valuable things you can do for your health is to assure you drink at least 8 glasses of good clean pure water each day. This doesn’t include soft drinks, beer, wine, coffee, tea, etc. This helps flush wastes from the body, keeps the cells hydrated and some experts believe it can even help keep healthy blood cholesterol levels down.

Finally Exercise - One can’t underestimate the role regular exercise plays in long term health. It is important when starting an exercise to do something you enjoy and don’t over commit and over do it. I.E. never bite off more than you can chew. You want to develop a good habit of exercise and the only way to do that is to start very slowly.

For example your goal for the first week may be to do 1 sit-up per day or walk to the end of your driveway and back. This may seem too easy, but our main concern is that we develop a good habit of doing some exercise everyday. And if you can do it for 21 straight days a good habit will develop.

One last thing to consider - too often most people think about what are the minimums in each area required for health. Why would someone only want the minimum amount of health?

That is like living off the minimum wage - not a pleasant thought.

Men’s Health Supplements

January 14, 2008 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

When trying to get in the best shape, exercise can only take you so far. In addition to a regular exercise regimen and a healthy diet, there are plenty of companies out there that offer men’s health supplements that can help maximize the results of your work. Here are a couple of them:

Creatine: A few years ago, creatine came on the market and revolutionized the workout scene. One of the most popular sports supplements of all time, creatine is not just for bodybuilders; it is now becoming known as a supplement that can help a number of health related disorders, including its use as an anti-aging nutrient. A compound comprised of several different amino acids, creatine was discovered in 1835. Naturally occurring in red meat, our bodies also produce creatine in minute quantities. It is stored in our muscles, and creatine supplements have proven effective in increasing lean muscle mass, reducing fat, and increasing strength. It may also help with fighting Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and fibromyalgia. In addition, it may help reduce cholesterol and improve heart functionality while fending off brain disorders.

Although it has been alleged that creatine may cause kidney damage, scientific studies have not so far proven this. However, if you have kidney problems, you are probably best off to avoid this supplement.

Whey Protein:

Whey protein is simply a rich source of essential amino acids that can aid the body in producing new tissues and repairing old ones. Used in bodybuilding, high amounts of protein are required to bulk up. Whey is one of the most easily digested forms of protein, and also contains antioxidants which can help the body’s functionality in a big way. One of the key men’s health supplements when on a workout regimen, this widely used supplement has proven results.

About Women Health Supplements

December 23, 2007 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

Question: I want to get my health back on track. What kind of nutrients would you recommend I should look into in the area of women health supplements?

Answer: Great question! There are plenty of supplements out there that can be of great aid to women’s health. One problem that plagues women, especially later in life, can be the dreaded osteoperosis. Since your body needs a steady supply of calcium, if you do not meet your body’s calcium requirements, it will begin to sap the calcium from your body’s teeth and bones, leaving them brittle and weak.

To prevent this, a calcium supplement can be of great aid. Coral calcium is one product on the market that can help prevent this ailment. Harvested from long-dead sea beds, the calcium found in coral sediments can help to pave the way for clear health.

Antioxidants are also key parts in maintaining the health of both males and females. Helping to stop the damaging effects of free-radicals (highly reactive chemicals that capture electrons and modify chemical structures), antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E may reduce the risk of cancer and muscular degeneration. Iron is also a key element that needs to be regularly consumed to help maintain the female body.

The body needs this mineral to produce red blood cells, and an iron shortage can result in anemia, a condition marked by a lack of red blood cells. Many of these simple minerals can help maintain your body’s structure and help lead you to great health. Some supplements even offer combined compounds that help to meet your daily requirements in a few of these categories.

I hope this article has helped you to learn more about your body and the things it needs to be working in its fittest form. Best of luck on your quest for nutrition!

Achieve Great Beauty Naturally And Win The Fight Against Aging

December 20, 2007 · Posted in Health Supplements · Comment

I usually smile with gratitude when friends (and even strangers) sincerely guess my age to be 15 years younger.

When they learn the truth about my fight against aging, they take notes and become converts. Yes, just like that!

Taking Care

The fight to extend human life is nothing new, and as we all know, people resort to various means to achieve this battle: from cutting out irresponsible habits to going under the scapel.

Scientists keep making significant discoveries and how best we can keep our body youthful and even reverse the aging process.

One denominator of these countless research is this: be aware of the changes affecting your body. As you grow older, it is important to be aware of the changes affecting your body. This is inevitable.

You need to know how to prevent problems occurring and how to respond to them should they surface.

Taking responsibility for your own natural health and well-being gives you a great self-confidence and makes you feel you are in control of events.

For example, you respond to your body when you suddenly feel thirsty and take the appropriate healthy drink, such as a glass cup of water.

You exercise regularly and know the level of your fitness; you take plenty of fruits and vegetables, simply said, you are conscious of what is happening within and without your body.

The implication of taking care is simply translated to your psyche. Your mind is settled in the fact that doing the right things keeps your energy levels up and this makes you feel younger and stress levels are kept at the barest minimum.

Controlling simple things that happen to your body will go a long way to keep your body from aging quickly. For example, red meat may be tasty and delicious, yet, time and again.

It’s been proven that a diet rich in red or processed meat can greatly increase the risk of bowel cancer. This is even worse, especially for those who have cut out fruits and vegetables from their menu.

Try This!

Do you smoke?

Cut it out for a week and see how you feel in your body. I can bet you, giving up that chimney-stuff will not only keep more money in your pocket, but it will also make your body younger, your skin radiant and your lungs livelier.

Do you stuff on red-meat burgers?

Exchange the burger for fish and see your youthfulness shoot through the roof! Not only will you be gaining an advantage over potential bowel-cancer-causing processed meat, but you will be reducing your levels of “bad” fat intake and increasing your “good” fat intake.

Do you take alcohol?

Substitute your alcohol intake for ordinary water, or at best water with a hint of natural juice mixers. Do this for a week and you would be amazed and your energy levels and better health.

Friend, while trying these things, add the “Peruvian Ginseng” or maca to your dietary supplement, you would be amazed and the ease with which you will be able to give up these bad habits, especially if you take the supplements such as maca as you would take any food.

You can suck or chew it, instead of the cigarette or alcohol. Many of our customers say they love sucking it like candy instead of droping back into any bad habits and it has helped wean them over as well.

You Can Do This….

Anyone, and I mean YOU, can take a ten-minute brisk-walk a day. Not only would you burn off dangerous fat concealed under your skin, you would help dislodge the toxins lurking around in your body through the waste that would be generated from the simple exercise. If you make it a duty to take a ten-minute brisk-walk a daily, your body will starting winning the fight for youthfulness.

Other things to take note of are the free radicals in the body. While oxygen is vital for life existence, it can also be its poison. Why? This is because when oxygen is used for essential processes inside the body, it leads to the production of damaging molecules known as free radicals.

The most damaging characteristic of free radicals is their chemical structure in that they contain an unpaired electron. This means that they roam around the body searching for healthy molecules to pair with. Unfortunately this pairing process damages the host molecule and irreversibly changes the DNA (material that carries genetic information).

If these free radicals are allowed to damage to body cells like this over a long period of time, the result is extensive cell damage and aging, as well as diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, cataracts and cancer.

Finally, Friend, the excellent combination of natural health supplements such as the Booster’s maca and Alive! goes a long way in the reduction of free radicals in your body.
